One Family?s Account of the Joys and Tears of the Depression Years

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:JONESBURG, MISSOURI (ContentDesk) August 9, 2005 -? Booksurge announces the publication of Do Tell by Ray Ruby. Reading Ray Ruby's book Do Tell makes you feel like you are sitting around a warm fire in your great grandpa's living room listening to him talk about what life was like when he was a child.
Ruby's stories are filled with humor, humanity, and most of all, they are heartfelt. You can tell that he was actually there experiencing those things. Do Tell begins with a chapter entitled, "Wild Horse Creek and the 1930s," where he and his family were growing up.

The reader is automatically captivated from the beginning as the narrator, then a young boy, is trying to get his new hammer (a Christmas present) out of the hole in the outhouse. His mother had thrown it in there after he had hit another boy in the head with it. This is just the first of many examples of how Ruby expertly re-tells the world of his experiences growing up through the Depression Years. In a few sentences, he is able to convey how difficult it must have been to live during such a time, but also how they worked as a family and did what they had to for survival. Despite the nation's grim circumstances, they were still a family, still loved one another dearly, still helped their neighbors who were even less fortunate, and still laughed together. From his boyish experiences on the farm to being a grown man in a world-wide war, Ruby's stories will make you laugh and cry, and more importantly, make you want to cherish the people and things around you.

About the AuthorQuestions such as, "What were your favorite programs on TV, Grandpa?" made Ray Ruby realized just how little his own children and grand children knew of what life was like during the Depression years of the 1930s, especially in the primitive, rural farming areas where he grew up. He decided to write Do Tell! to preserve these experiences for his descendants (and others) the way those before him had done ? by telling stories.
Ruby says, "I wanted our children and future generations to know what life was like living on a rocky hill farm with 9 family members in a 2 room house with sleeping shed attached, and with no electricity, no running water and no money."Ruby lived through and participated in World War II, and so did five of his brothers. He later went on to work in a bank and raise his own family.
He hopes that Do Tell! will show others a glimpse of the past, and hopes that some appreciation for parents, grandparents and great grandparents will emerge from reading it.For more information or for a free review copy, please contact the bookstore at 866-308-6235 X 120 or email the author.
